Your figures
After tax, in today's money.
Split between your ISAs and your pension in the same proportions as what you already hold. It rises with inflation each year, so it keeps its value.
On your ISAs and pensions, after charges. Cash grows at 1%.
You could retire at 62, in 2048.
You could retire at
62
in 2048, 22 years from now, drawing 3.5% a year.
Why 3.5%, not 4%: this plan has to last to age 100, and on UK returns since 1900 the most you could have drawn every year without running out was about 3.1% over 30 years and 2.4% over 50, so even 3.5% isn't guaranteed; the app also shows 3%.
This assumes the full new State Pension, £241.30 a week (£12,548 a year, 2026 to 2027), from 68. That needs 35 qualifying years of National Insurance: if you stop work before you have them, you may get less.
Every figure in these tiles is in today's money: the pot at 62 is £1.4m in the pounds of 2048. Your spending rises with inflation as well, and the State Pension is counted in from 68 — the date allows for both. That is less than the pot you need because the State Pension pays part of your spending from 68: £907.7k is the pot you would need if it had to cover all your spending, and its tax, on its own.
What the pot does
If you keep paying in until you stop. Nominal pounds, not adjusted for inflation.
Solid: everything. Dashed: the part you could reach before age 57.
This is a simplified model: three accounts, one growth rate and the app's standard UK tax and State Pension settings, so it will sometimes disagree with the figure you get once you have entered your real accounts, contributions and pension details. It draws at 3.5% a year; the app also shows 3%, which needs a bigger pot and so gives a later date and a smaller share of the way there.
